Mystara Compendium Miscellanea
I’ve heard it said that Kopru are the Ithilids of the Mystara world. This is not true. They are sick, twisted and lack any sort of human moral compass in their own way. Just because they have tentacles for mouths and are capable of mental domination and mind reading doesn’t make them Mindflayers. For one, Kopru are amphibians and don’t play around above the surface of water. Secondly, they have no qualms about getting their claws bloody, primarily because they can’t mentally incapacitate victims, and they can’t dominate the same victim until they fail their check. Same motives, only slightly similar Modus Operandai.

Domination [Charm]: Kopru may try to dominate a sentient target within 60 yards once per day. That target must succeed at a Willpower (Self-Discipline) test : TN 15 or be dominated. With success that character is immune to further attempts by any Kopru in the same group. If it fails, the character becomes linked to the Kopru and fully committed to the interests of the Kopru. Those dominated receive a new test after a month’s time has passed. Otherwise the effect is indefinite. It ends if the Kopru dies, or if it is dispelled via ritual.
Mind Link [Mental]: Kopru can hear the thoughts and read the memories of any they are currently dominating. Their desires in terms of emotions and images can be transferred to their thralls allowing them to be controlled. They may also communicate with others of their kind. Distance is not a factor for controlling others, in terms of communication it only works for up to 100 yards.
The kopru are a race of cruel, heat-loving amphibians of great intelligence and power. Each has a smooth head, large eyes, and a tentacled, sphinctered mouth. Kopru have humanoid torsos and two arms ending in webbed, clawed hands. From the waist down, their bodies consist of three fluke-like tails, each ending in a sharp ripping claw.
Whilst they do not truly hate all people, kopru view humans as nothing hut brutes to he used, played with, and controlled. Their expansion was severely limited by their need for very hot, wet environments, such as hot springs and tropical swamps in order to propagate. Their civilization has been in decline for many years.
