Dragon Turtle

Mystara Compendium Miscellanea

While the idea of a dragon turtle is hardly an invention of the Mystara campaign world, or the rules it traditionally operated under, they were iconic members of its bestiary for years before they joined the ranks of standard D&D fare along with the Athach, Aranea and Nightshades. Seafarers beware!

Dragon Turtles are titanic creatures, easily measuring 30 feet from snout to tail that resemble snapping turtles with a dragonlike head, including a wicked mouth full of teeth rather than a beak. They have thick shells on their backs, and often rise up underneath fishing vessels to capsize them and eat the flailing, panicked occupants. They speak Draconic and tend to know human languages as well as the common sea tongue. Although they rarely parley, Dragon Turtles are intelligent creatures. They have the cruel outlook of bullies because they are usually the strongest creatures in their environment and can easily overwhelm smaller beings without much trouble.
